Key points from our full report on the quarterly
survey of airline business confidence



  • Airlines reported a further improvement in financial performance in the past quarter, back to mid-2007 confidence levels;
  • Confidence in financial performance over the next 12 months also rose, suggesting airlines expect a significant improvement in 2010 profitability;
  • Cargo and passenger markets have recovered strongly and further gains are expected;
  • Yields have just started to rise for the majority of airlines, but expectations for further improvements remain positive;
  • Costs are reported to have been stable on average in the past quarter but some increase is now expected;
  • Intentions to increase employment remain positive.
