GIDON Novick, Comair joint ceo, has confirmed to eTNW the group’s plans to launch flights from King Shaka International Airport to London’s Gatwick airport.

The announcement comes following an agreement reached between Comair and the KwaZulu Natal provincial government’s key economic development project, the Dube Trade Port.

Commenting on the announcement, Novick said it was an exciting project with “lots of work still to be done”.

Mike Mabuyakhulu, MEC for economic development and tourism for KwaZulu Natal said they hoped to announce the first flight within the next year. Mabuyakhulu further said that new regional flights from Durban to other Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries were planned.

Comair is yet to decide which of its two brands, BA Comair or kulula, will be used to operate the flights.
